(LAPEER COUNTY) – A major fire in Lapeer County Monday afternoon brought fire departments from two counties to the scene of Jim’s Recycling in Attica Township, northwest of Imlay City.
According to a deputy from the Lapeer County Sheriff Department, fire trucks were responding to the call on Youngs Road, north of Bowers before 3 p.m.
An all-call was put out to Lapeer and Sanilac County fire departments with more than 16 departments responding.
The facility is an automotive recycling location along with scrap metals, according to authorities. Heavy thick, black smoke was sent billowing into the sky at the height of the fire as flames ripped through the Lapeer County business.
10 fire departments responded from Sanilac County including Speaker and Elk Townships, Croswell, Brown City, Moore and Lamotte Townships, Minden City, Carsonville, Deckerville and Delaware Township.
There was no word on injuries and firefighters were able to save a nearby house from the inferno.
Cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
