The Sandusky Redskins won their first Regional Golf Championship ever by holding off second place Saginaw Nouvel 341 – 342 earlier this week. Redskins Junior Christian Long was the tournament medalist with a one over par 72, beating his nearest competitor by 7 strokes. Other scoring came from freshman Carson Shampo who carded an 87, sophomores Brandon Trepkowski and Kyle Guibord came into the clubhouse with a pair of 91s and sophomore Landon DeLong shot an 18-hole round of 104. Coach John Guttowsky said winning the regional title was a great feat for the very young Redskin team., with winning the school’s first Regional title ever and to do it by defeating a perennial power like Nouvel. The 3431 score was the best team score the GTC champs shot all season long, by seven strokes. The Redskins have now qualified for the Division 4 state finals June 11-12 at the Fortress in Frankenmuth.
