Police investigate possible stolen vehicle; fire


UPDATE – 6-11-2021 -The following is a press release from the Sanilac County Sheriff Department:
A Sandusky man was jailed Wednesday morning for questioning related to an incident in Sanilac County’s Elmer Township. Shortly after 7 a.m., Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Sandusky Fire Department responded to Miller Rd. for a vehicle on fire in the middle of the road.
Deputies say a vehicle had been abandoned, after it had been intentionally set on fire, by an unknown subject. It was determined the vehicle had been stolen from a residence in the area of Miller Rd. and Maple Valley St.
A few hours later, Deputies were sent to the 500 block of S. Sandusky Rd. where a resident reported sometime in the night, someone had attempted to set an outbuilding on fire, as well as a vehicle that had been parked in the driveway.
Around 10 a.m., Deputies and Sandusky Police Department were sent to the area of S. Sandusky and Cooper Rd. for a suspicious subject walking on Cooper Rd.
A 29-year old Sandusky man was taken into custody on a parole violation and lodged at the Sanilac County Jail.
Investigation into the male subject and his involvement in the original complaints is ongoing.

(AREA) – Local law enforcement are investigating an incident early Wednesday morning in Sanilac County that involved a truck that had been reported stolen and eventually, was set on fire.
The Sanilac County Sheriff Department, Sandusky police department and Sandusky fire department responded to the area of Miller Road, west of S. Sandusky Road around 8 a.m.
Although information is limited, residents in the areas report a vehicle had been stolen, taken on a joy ride and then set on fire.
Residents say the male suspect apparently tried to set a vehicle on fire on the corner of Miller and 19. He allegedly broke in, taking change from the vehicle and allegedly tried setting a strawberry box on fire with old gas found in her garage.
Neighbors say the fuel was old and did not ignite so the suspect apparently moved on to the next house, on the other side. According to residents, the suspect allegedly stole a pickup  went on a joyride and then allegedly set it on fire.
Car parts from a vehicle were collected from a residence in the area.
We will have more information on this incident as police release their report.
