(HURON COUNTY) – A 52-year old Bad Axe man sustained fatal injuries in a crash involving a bicycle and another vehicle Wednesday morning, just before noon.
According to Michigan State Police Troopers from the Caro Post, the collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. on North Van Dyke and Barrie Roads in Huron County’s Colfax Township.
Troopers say the crash involved a bicyclist, a 52-year-old male from Bad Axe, and a vehicle hauling a utility trailer.
Investigation showed the vehicle departed from a stop sign traveling south, crossing at the intersection of N Van Dyke Rd and Barrie Rd.
The bicyclist was traveling east, within the eastside shoulder of the roadway, on N Van Dyke Rd when he struck the utility trailer of the vehicle.
Upon impact, the bicyclist became lodged underneath the trailer and was dragged an unknown distance before becoming dislodged.
The bicyclist was pronounced deceased on scene from his injuries. Troopers say the vehicle left the scene of the crash but was later located.
The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old male from Ruth, was unaware the crash occurred.
Troopers were assisted by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Bad Axe Police and Fire Department, Bad Axe DPW, and Central Huron EMS. The incident remains under investigation.
