(SANILAC COUNTY) – The Sandusky police department has gone over the 1,000 mark for the number of incidents they handled through the end of May.
In his report to the city council, Chief Brett Lester says the department responded to 224 calls for assistance in May, giving them 1,083 for the year.
Included in those numbers are 15 arrests and 61 traffic stops where 45 verbal warnings were issued.
With the onset of nice weather in the area, the number of blight cases showed a dramatic increase in number of cases as officers responded to 49 complaints, the largest number of blight complaints so far this year.
Sandusky officers also assisted other agencies six times outside of the city limits, with five of the calls responding with the Sanilac County Sheriff Department.
For the year, officers have arrested 52 adults, eight juveniles and made 245 traffic stops while issuing 196 verbal warnings.
