(SANILAC COUNTY) – Michigan Sugar Company continues toadd upgrades to its Croswell plant as steel support girders have gone up for a new indoor sugar beet storage facility.
The facility being built is on the northeast corner of M-90 and Croswell Road, west of the high school, on property recently secured by the company.
Michigan Sugar is investing millions of dollars in order to increase the plant’s productivity.
According to Michigan Sugar officials, the newest upgrade builds on projects that were completed last year when $13 million dollars in upgrades were done with the addition of a new beet receding, washing, and recovery stations.
Over the last five years approximately $65 million has been invested in the Croswell facility for several improvements including the carbonation filtration system, heat exchangers, slicers and handling systems.
