Dawson Street construction progressing; completed by Fair time

(SANILAC COUNTY) – The Dawson Street rebuilding project in Sandusky continues to move along, with crews pouring new cement curbs this week and planning to replace the dusty, dirt road with new asphalt sometime next week, depending on weather conditions.
Sandusky City Manager Dave Faber said the project is estimated to cost around $550,000 with the majority of the funding paid by State and Federal dollars through the Rural Transportation Fund.
During the construction, new infrastructure was installed, including water and sewer  lines.
Although not officially considered to be part of the detour route work prior to the upcoming major rebuild of M-46, city officials felt Dawson Street needed to be rebuilt, partially with an eye on upcoming construction.
If and when the M-46 project does happy (possibly in 2024) Dawson Street would be part of the detoured route in Sandusky.
City Manager Faber said bids are also being let for work to be done on North Sandusky Road, estimated to cost around $300,000 dollars.
The work could either begin yet this year, or be completed prior to the Thumb Festival next June.
When the M-46 project is done, to include a total rebuilt with new sewer and water lines and improvements at the M-46 & M-19 intersection, the detour route planned is from North Sandusky Road to Argyle Street to Dawson Street back to M-46.
Work on Dawson Street will be completed prior to the start of the Sanilac County Fair, according to Faber. The Fair is scheduled to run from August 8th through the 14th.
