(SANILAC COUNTY) – Four people were involved in a two-vehicle accident in Watertown Township late Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency personnel responded to South Sandusky Road (M-19) around 5 p.m. after receiving a report of the accident.
The accident, which happened near the Watertown Township Hall just before 5 p.m., closed M-19 for a period of time while the victims were treated and investigation completed by the Sanilac County Sheriff Department.
Deputies say a 2003 Pontiac, driven by a 52-year-old Emmett woman, was heading north and was stopped in the roadway, waiting to make a left-hand turn into a private driveway.
A 2008 Chrysler driven by a 16-year-old Greenwood female was also traveling north and came up behind the Pontiac and started to pass.
As the Chrysler was passing, the Pontiac started to turn into the private drive, and the vehicles collided and came to rest in the roadway.
The 52-year-old woman was ejected from her vehicle and was transported from the scene to McKenzie Health System and later transferred to Covenant Hospital in Saginaw.
A 22-year-old male passenger in the Pontiac, also from Emmett, was not injured in the crash. The 16-year-old driver of the Chrysler and her 15-year-old passenger from Peck were treated on scene and released.
Deputies say alcohol was not a factor in this crash, however the lack of use of seat belts was a factor in this crash.
Names are being withheld pending further investigation of the crash.
Sandusky fire and EMS units from Sandusky and Marlette assisted deputies.
