A Sanilac County man has been sentenced to a year in jail for his role in a fatal accident.
Adam Bullock, of Peck, was sentenced to a year in the Sanilac County Jail and two years of probation Thursday in a Sanilac County courtroom.
According to court records, Bullock struck and killed 77-year-old Mary Anna Longuski near the intersection of Lapeer and Elk Streets in Peck on October 18th of last year. The incident was captured on a surveillance camera at a nearby business.
Authorities said Bullock lied to first responders about the circumstances of the incident, claiming she collapsed in the road, and did not tell the first responders that he had struck her with his vehicle.
Court documents show Bullock pleaded guilty to failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault causing death, a 15-year felony, lying to a peace officer in a serious misdemeanor investigation, moving violation causing death and failure to report an accident resulting in injury or death.
Two counts of tampering with evidence and failure to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident were dismissed at sentencing.
During the court session this week, family members of Longuski say Bullock’s actions at the scene hindered first responders from giving their loved one proper medical care.
According to the Port Huron Times Herald, Bullock’s attorney had argued for community supervision, stating Bullock has almost no criminal record and that his actions will weigh on him for the rest of his life.
