(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – M-25, known as Lakeshore Road,
was closed for several hours Thursday morning, following a fatal crash in Burtchville Township.
Authorities say one person was killed in a head-on crash between a semi and passenger car in St. Clair County’s Burtchville Township early Thursday morning.
Burtchville Township fire officials say the crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. on M-25, about a mile north of Burtch Road.
Investigators say the person driving the car died at the scene of the crash while the semi-truck driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A hazardous materials crew was called to the scene for spilled fuel and officials said M-25 would remain closed from Burtch Road to Harris Road for an extended period of time.
Michigan State Police reconstructionists arrived on scene and took over the investigation shortly after 9 a.m.
Authorities encouraged motorists to avoid the area and it was expected the busy roadway would remain closed for several hours to allow for crash investigation.
