(ST. CLAIR COUNTY) – The Christmas season has taken a tragic turn for a St. Clair County family this week, after fire ripped through their home with four people inside.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff Department, a three-year-old female died following the house fire in Fort Gratiot Tuesday night.
Sheriff Mat King says the house fire in the 4300 block of Abel Drive was first reported around midnight and was fully engulfed on the north side of the home when firefighters arrived.
He said three children were in the home along with an adult when one child reported a fire in another room.
The adult and two children exited the home, however the three-year-old girl was unable to escape the flames and burning home, according to the Sheriff.
All four occupants were transported to Port Huron area hospitals for treatment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the sheriff detective bureau and fire investigation unit and the Fort Gratiot Fire Department.
Burtchville Township and the City of Port Huron fire departments, along with Tri-Hospital EMS, provided mutual aid to Fort Gratiot Township.
