(SANILAC COUNTY) – Some of the highest numbers of COVID-19 the area
has seen are being reported by the Sanilac County Health Department.
In a period of 12 days, from December 20th to 31st, the health department reports Sanilac County had 298 new cases of the virus.
In addition, there were six new deaths, giving the county 156 deaths since the start of the virus.
There were 49 new cases in those ages 51-60 while another 46 cases were reported by those ages 41 to 50. Another 43 cases were reported in 31 to 40 year olds, 42 cases in those 61 to 70 and 35 cases in the age group 23-30 years old.
Over two-thirds of those infected with the virus were in the age groups 23 to 70, with 196 cases. Just 17 cases in seven school districts and the ISD, were reported in school-aged residents.
By community, residents of Sandusky had 52 new cases while Croswell reported 424 and Lexington 27. Marlette reported 26 cases, Brown City 25 while Carsonville and Applegate had 20 cases each.
Authorities are encouraging everyone to use COVID protocols, including the use of masks and social distancing.
