The Sanilac County Health Department is reporting their largest spike of COVID-19 since the start of the virus over two years ago. In the period of January 17th through the 23rd, health department officials are reporting 426 new cases of COVID along with one additional death, leaving them with 159 fatalities. The largest spike, by age group, comes in those 31 to 40 years old where there were 74 new cases. There were another 63 cases in those 41 to 50 years old and 54 cases in those ages 23-30. In addition, there were 52 cases each in those 51-60 and 61-70, making 295 cases total in those ages 23-70. Another 50 cases were reported in school aged children 11 to 18 years old. By community, Sandusky spiked with 82 new cases while Croswell reported 48. Brown City and Marlette reported 45 cases each while Lexington had 28 and Carsonville had 24. All zip codes in Sanilac County reported at least one new case of COVID with the exception of Forestville.
