(LAPEER COUNTY) Police are looking for a suspect whomthey believe allegedly committed a string of burglaries in western Lapeer County late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
According to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation is underway on three reports of someone breaking into vehicles and outbuildings in southern Oregon Township and northern Elba Township between 10 p.m. Wednesday and into the early morning hours of Thursday.
Investigators say the suspect made off with about $7,000 worth of tools and a seat heater. The first burglary happened in a pole barn on Oregon Road near Lapeer around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The suspect also got into a vehicle and a trailer, which both were unlocked and allegedly stole tools valued at $7,000. Police say the suspect later rummaged through an unlocked vehicle near the intersection of Indian and McDowell roads in the Lapeer area, but nothing was stolen.
Police believe the suspect also got into two vehicles, a barn and a vehicle parked inside the barn, which all were unlocked, on Bassett Road in the Lapeer area where a seat heater was stolen from one of the vehicles.
The sheriff’s office was unable to obtain a clear description of the male suspect or his vehicle, but he was captured on a black and white home surveillance camera in the area.
Anyone with information about the suspect should call the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators are asking residents near the burglaries to check their home surveillance systems for any images of the suspect.
The sheriff’s office also warned residents to lock all vehicles and buildings to prevent future thefts.
