(SANILAC COUNTY) – The Sandusky city council heard a budget presentation from City Manager Dave Faber Monday evening, showing the new General Fund budget is balanced.
The General Fund 2022-2023 budget shows revenues and expenditures of just under $2 million dollars. Along with that, the city projects a Major Street budget of over $590,000 dollars along with a local street budget of around $352,000 dollars.
Another $3 million has been budgeted for Sewer and Water departments while $210,000 dollars has been appropriated for equipment.
Using a pie chart to show how funding is divided, Faber told council the General Fund is around 30% of the total budget while Sewer and Water include another 46%.
Among upcoming projects in the city are upgrades and Diamond Trail and George Haupt Park, crack sealing and total rebuilds of some streets, including North Elk.
City officials also will be meeting with MDOT personnel to further plan for the major construction of M-46 from Dawson Street to the eastern city limits slated for 2024.
In other council news, City Manager Faber presented a proposal that had come from a sub-committee meeting of council members, recommending retention bonuses for 18 city employees.
Despite the committee’s recommendation and support to move forward with the bonuses, during the meeting Monday evening, council decided to re-visit the proposal before coming to any final decision.
The proposal had called for nearly $36,000 dollars to be shared with all employees, for their dedication and extra efforts to the city during the COVID pandemic.
Council also learned that the Little League baseball Opening Day festivities, including a 9 a.m. parade, will be held Saturday, May 14th.
