The Sanilac County Road Commission is off to a good start financially in 2022 when it comes to the Michigan Transportation Fund.
After taking in a record amount of over $9.7 million a year ago, Road Commission officials say they have already banked more than $1.8 million in the first two months of the new year.
The MTF funds are created by gas taxes and have steadily increased over the past five years or more.
In 2017, Sanilac County Road Commission took in $7.4 million and the overall amount has increased every year since.
Nearly $800,000 was receipted in January while over $1 million was collected last month.
In other Road Commission news, officials say workers were kept buy scrapping and salting roads in the County, having been called out seven times in the past two weeks.
Road Commission crews put down 889 tons of salt on County roads along with another 841 ton on State highways in January.
Another 1,011 tons were applied to County Roads last month and more than 1,060 tons of salt was spread on highways throughout the county.
Engineer/Manager Robb Falls reported that the project on Ruth Road, over the Black River, is set to get underway and temporary signage was installed this week.
