A quick reaction by a paramedic driving an ambulance in Sanilac County possibly prevented a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon. A 38-year old Lexington woman and her four-year old daughter sustained injuries in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Sanilac County’s Worth Township. According to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department, the crash involved an EMS unit from Port Huron. Investigators say the two people were injured after their Jeep struck a Tri-Hospital EMS ambulance carrying a patient, near the intersection of M-25 and Mortimer Line just before 2:30 p.m. Deputies say a 2008 Jeep driven by the Lexington woman was southbound on M-25 when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a 2017 Tri-Hospital EMS ambulance that was northbound on M-25. Both victims in the Jeep were injured in the crash and taken to McLaren Port Huron Hospital by Croswell EMS for treatment of injuries. No injuries were sustained by the occupants of the ambulance that included two paramedics, an EMS student volunteer and a patient. The ambulance sustained minor damage. In their report, Deputies say the driver of the Jeep was showing signs of intoxication. Upon completion of the investigation, a report of the incident will be sent to the Sanilac County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Tri-Hospital EMS officials say the medic driving the ambulance noticed the Jeep swerving in and out of traffic just before the crash. The ambulance was transporting a non-emergency patient to another healthcare facility.
