The Brown City Council met Monday to discuss further development of Maple Valley Estates, pass a resolution concerning future traffic barriers used during city events, and handle business as usual.
The meeting featured a question and answer section about the project, with Jamie Cummings from C&C Land Development and his attorney appearing before the mayor, council and audience to pitch how the company will develop single- and double-wide homes that fall in line with the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s standards. After considering the city ordinances needing amendment for development and other questions, the council decided to send the building proposal back to the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission meets next on May 5, with a possibility to schedule a public hearing at a later commission meeting on June 2 to discuss options.
Next on the agenda was the passing of resolution 22-06, which seeks approval to formally apply for assistance from the Risk Reduction Grant Program (RRGP) so the city may purchase new barriers. Ideally, the council seeks to purchase 10 new barricades better equipped to control traffic flow during city events, particularly for Main Street events. If the assistance is granted, Brown City will be splitting the almost $4,000 cost with the grant program. The resolution passed with no issue.
Other items covered at the meeting were the payment of city bills, an update on planning of the Memorial Day Parade and scheduling a Personnel Committee meeting for May 9 about searching for a new city manager.
