Several area schools are among 150 in Michigan to be chosen by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to receive money from the Competitive School Safety Grant Program.
The program, which will divvy up $10 million in state funding, had a total of 336 eligible applications submitted. The money is granted with the intention of using it to improve school security, be it via new technology or equipment upgrades. Among the grant recipients are Brown City Community Schools; Capac Community Schools; Caro Community Schools; Cass City Public Schools; East Shore Leadership Academy in Port Huron; Kinde’s North Huron Schools; Port Huron Public Schools; and Yale Public Schools.
In total, the eight schools received almost $900,000 of the $10 million fund.
