Tuscola County’s Memorial Day weekend was a busy one for Caro’s Michigan State Police troopers as they responded to several accidents and crashes.
On Saturday evening, a 76-year-old Vassar woman failed to yield at Hart Road’s stop sign while driving east on Traux road. In doing so, her 2014 Buick collided with a 2005 Audi. She and the Audi’s driver, a 49-year-old Vassar man, refused medical help at the scene.
Sunday was very busy, unfortunately starting at 2:30 a.m. when a 2017 Mazda, driven by a 29-year-old Columbiaville man, ran off of Leix Road as he traveled north. When overcorrecting to get back on the road, the man went into the west ditch instead, striking a mailbox as he did. The Mazda continued into the intersection at O’Brien Road before overturning and throwing the driver from his car. He was airlifted from the scene for further treatment out of area. It is believed he was intoxicated at the time, though the investigation continues.
Sunday afternoon, a 34-year-old Akron woman stopped at the Sheridan Road stop sign but failed to properly yield, colliding with a westbound vehicle in the intersection as she pulled onto Dickerson Road. The other driver, a 45-year-old woman, also of Akron, was not found at fault and both women refused medical treatment.
Troopers ended Sunday at a private property after an 18-year-old Cass City man overturned his ATV in the woods after hitting a tree root and losing control. He was taken to the hospital via private means.
And yesterday afternoon, troopers responded to a motorcycle accident on Cedar Run Road after the 73-year-old Imlay City man lost control of his 2007 Harley Davidson on the road’s curve. This led to him entering a ditch, but he later denied medical treatment.
