Dollar General Manager arrested, sued for hiding camera in bathroom ceiling

A Dollar General store in Caro is in legal hot water after a woman filed suit against her former manager for allegedly placing a camera in the store’s unisex bathroom.
The manager, Cody Crouch, and the store’s owning and managing company, Dolgencorp, are named in the suit following an incident this past April that also resulted in Crouch being arrested.
In the lawsuit, the former employee alleges that on April 29 she noticed a hole in a bathroom ceiling tile that, upon further inspection, held a camera phone. She called police and upon reporting the phone to Crouch, he immediately tried to destroy it, an action that earned him a count of tampering with evidence in the later investigation by Caro Police. He was also arrested and charged for two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, capturing and distributing images of an unclothed person, and surveilling an unclothed person.
Crouch was bound over in Tuscola County Circuit Court last week before the lawsuit was filed in the same court. The lawsuit is seeking damages for invasion of privacy, emotional distress, premise liability, sexual harassment, and negligent hiring/supervision practices.
Ven Johnson Law, the firm representing the former employee, urges that anyone who used the bathroom of the Dollar General at 755 North State Street in Caro between April 2021 and April 2022 to contact them.
