Out-of-area pair injured in motorcycle and deer collision, say Sanilac deputies

Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office received a report this past Monday, July 4, around 1:43 p.m. of a collision between a motorcycle and deer in Lamotte Township, on VanDyke Road near Adams Road.
Upon arriving at the scene with Marlette EMS, Sanilac EMS and the Lamotte Township Fire Department, deputies investigated the scene. They determined that the 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle was being driven north on Van Dyke Road by a 50-year-old New Jersey man when a deer jumped into the road in front of him. The motorcycle was struck and the driver and his passenger, a 51-year-old woman, also from New Jersey were injured in the collision, with the motorcycle falling and sliding several feet with its riders still clinging to it after the initial crash.
The driver was taken to Marlette Regional Hospital by Marlette EMS, later being taken by LifeNet to Flint Hurley hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, the passenger was taken to Lapeer Hospital by Sanilac EMS for her injuries. Both driver and passenger had been wearing their helmets at time of impact, and at present, initial investigation shows no additional contributing factors.
