Sanilac County Sheriff deputies say that alcohol and distracted driving were at play during a late night ride that resulted in a woman driving into an unoccupied building.
Deputies received the call about 1:04 a.m. Friday morning, responding with Sanilac EMS and the Sandusky Fire Department to the scene at West Sanilac and Ubly Roads in Elmer Township.
They found a 25-year-old woman from Sandusky, who had been driving her 2019 Chevrolet pickup south on Ubly Road when she disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Ubly and Sanilac Roads. Continuing through the intersection, the woman drove into the yard of a residence, coming to stop when she struck the building. The building, as well as several vehicles inside of it, sustained major damage due to the crash.
The woman was treated at the scene and later transported to McKenzie Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
