McLaren Port Huron Hospital was on lockdown Tuesday morning following a threatening phone call made to the hospital this morning. Port Huron Police Captain Brian Kerrigan said the call was reported around 9:35 a.m.
The hospital updated the public on the matter via Facebook post at 10:30 a.m., saying: “McLaren Port Huron is currently on lockdown due to a potential security threat. Patients with an appointment will be screened at the entrance. All others are asked to please refrain from coming to the hospital at this time,” later updating that “[a]s of 2:27 p.m., the lockdown has been lifted. All visitation and entry to the hospital can resume as usual.”
A later press release identified the caller as a 56- year-old Port Huron resident who, when police attempted to contact him, refused to come out of his house. Following a search warrant served by the Port Huron Police’s Special Response Team, the man was arrested without incident, with a search of the home showing that he did not have the means to carry out the threat.
However, he did confess to it during police interviews, saying he was sorry and had no intention of carrying out the threat. Still, he was arrested and is now facing charges of making terroristic threats and being a habitual offender.
