SpeedConnect internet provider is 10 months behind on rent to Sandusky; city council approves going forward with legal action

Local residents receiving their internet from SpeedConnect may need to start looking into other providers soon, following a discussion held Tuesday night by the Sandusky City Council.
City Manager Dave Faber reported to the council that the company has not paid their rent invoices for the last 10 months. Faber went on to report that the city attorney sent two letters to the company, one in June and another in July, seeking payment or explanation, but had not heard back since the start of summer.
With the company being now “roughly about two grand in the hole to the city,” and penalties being applied to every bill SpeedConnect has missed, Faber requested approval from the council for the city’s attorney to begin the foreclosure process and have the equipment removed.
Faber confirmed to the council that the contract allows for the removal, saying that foreclosure was the contract’s agreed upon method of enforcement that the city could take if SpeedConnect failed to uphold their end. The council agreed, voting to pass the measure and begin the process.
Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, the council decided that this year’s trick-or-treating hours would be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31.
Mayor Lukshaitis also announced that there are two upcoming ribbon cutting ceremonies: one on Sunday, September 11th for the Bob Stasiuk Memorial at the Diamond Trail from 1-3, and one on Monday, September 12 at 9:00 a.m. for the grand opening of Rachel’s Finishing Touches, a salon opening at 28 East Sanilac Road in Sandusky.
