Port Huron woman killed in vehicle-pedestrian accident in Fort Gratiot Township

accident-2

A 59-year-old Port Huron woman died Saturday night following a traffic crash in Fort Gratiot Township.
The woman had been crossing in her motorized wheelchair towards the east side of 24th Avenue around 9:55 p.m. on September 10 when she was struck by the vehicle. The driver, a 33-year-old woman from Port Huron, was driving her 2006 Chevrolet Malibu south on 24th Avenue when she crossed through Krafft Road’s flashing yellow light, accidentally hitting the pedestrian as the wheelchair attempted to cross the street from the west side.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office saying they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the case, though the investigation is ongoing.
Responding to the scene with the sheriff’s office were Tri-Hospital EMS and the Fort Gratiot Fire Department.
