A late night accident in Worth Township on Friday, September 30 was responsible both a power outage in Lexington and the death of a 76-year-old man local to the area.
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies, accompanied by Lexington and Croswell Police Departments, as well as the Lexington and Burtchville Township Fire Departments, responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident on South Lakeshore Road near Galbraith Line Road.
The accident, which had been called in around 11:39 p.m., was determined to have happened when a 76-year-old Lexington man was driving north in his 2008 Lincoln MKX when, while traveling on South Lakeshore Road, the car left the roadway at the curve. Leaving the roadway, he struck several trees and an electrical pole before overturning in the east ditch.
Despite the efforts of officers and Croswell EMS, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, with deputies theorizing that the man was having a medical emergency when he left the roadway. Alcohol does not appear to have been involved, and the man had not been wearing his seatbelt.
Due to the collision with the electrical pole, much of Worth Township was without power until DTE arrived at the scene and quickly restored power.
