Tuscola County Sheriff deputies had their hands full earlier last month, when an intoxicated driver from Mayville caused several accidents in one night.
It was Sunday, October 9 when Tuscola County Central Dispatch received the first call: a 29-year-old woman from Caro reported she had just been rear-ended while driving on M-24, was injured, and had not been able to get a good look at the car responsible. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries by Mobile Medical Response.
It was actually while a deputy was interviewing the woman that dispatch received the next call about a car crash, this time near Mertz Road and M-46. En route to the second call, deputies came across a third incident, this time on Mertz Road, where a vehicle was in the ditch after being rear-ended by a Ford Expedition.
Deputies finally found the Ford Expedition and their suspect, 59-year-old Scott Slater of Mayville, at a local gas station, where they arrested him. He was lodged at the Tuscola County Jail, though he was released on Wednesday, October 11 after posting a $750 cash bond.
He has been charged with two counts of failure to stop at a collision, one count of failure to report an accident, and one felony count of operating while intoxicated (third offense).
