There are fourteen proposals on the ballot across Sanilac County, though only one– the Medical Care Facility’s millage renewal– is on ballots county-wide.
The others, mostly millages, are more local, with Austin and Bridgehampton Townships both having two millages on their ballot related to road work, with all but one of Bridgehampton’s proposals being renewals of existing road millages. The other townships with road-related millages are Minden and Wheatland Townships, also seeking renewals of current mill rates.
Minden Township is also seeking a renewal of a mill covering general operation costs for the township, with Applegate also seeking a general operating cost millage, but instead of a renewal, the village is asking for restoration of a higher mill rate for their costs.
Minden Township’s general cost millage also covered fire protection, which Worth Township address in its own millage, seeking a rate of 1.25 mills ($1.25 per every $1000 taxed) for two years to pay for public safety expenses, especially fire and emergency services. Moore Township’s firefighting millage, meanwhile, is focused on a four year, 1 mill rate plan to raise money for new equipment and/or gear.
In terms of school millages, there are only two: one from Brown City, which seeks to create a sinking fund for the school, and the other from Marlette, seeking a 1 mill rate for four years for operation costs.
And finally, Buel Township has a controversial proposal on their ballot, the petitioned-for Marijhauna proposal, which seeks to establish businesses related to the cannabis industry, such as growing, processing and selling at properly licensed facilities.
