Lapeer County Sheriff deputies are currently looking further into a fatal rollover crash on Tuesday, November 8, near Plum Creek Road that resulted in a three-hour road closure for investigation.
Authorities say that it was before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday when 58-year-old Anthony Saferian of Metamora was driving south on M-24 in his Ford-F250 truck when, unable to make the curve in the road, he crossed the road’s centerline. A 57-year-old Vassar man was traveling north in his Chevrolet Silverado on M-24 at the time, getting sideswiped by the wayward truck, though no injuries were reported by the driver, only minor damage to the vehicle.
Saferian, seemingly unable to regain control of the truck, continued off the highway and into the ditch, spinning out partially before rolling a number of times. Not wearing his seatbelt, he was flung from the vehicle when the pickup made its last roll into a utility pole, where it came to rest.
Saferian was reported dead at the scene, and authorities are still trying to determine if he was under the influence or speeding when he failed to make the curve.
