Huron County Sheriff deputies report that a two-vehicle collision on Friday, November 11 resulted from one of the drivers involved being asleep at the wheel.
A 73-year-old man from Caseville was driving southwest on Port Austin Road, near Sylvia Beach Road in Lake Township, in his 2017 Ford Explorer when a 2009 GMC Sierra careened into the Explorer.
The Sierra was being driven by a 66-year-old Port Austin man who told officers that he had fallen asleep behind the wheel, crossing the road’s median and into the Explorer. Despite the accident causing major damage to the front left of the Sierra, the Port Austin man was able to change the impacted tire and thus avoid a wrecker.
Functional damage was reported to the back left of the Explorer, and no injuries were reported.
