Sanilac County law enforcement agencies are getting into the holiday season a bit early by taking part in several efforts to give county kids a Christmas to remember.
Currently, Sanilac County Sheriff Paul Rich is collecting donations for the department’s annual “Shop With a Hero” program, with community businesses and organizations like Exchange State Bank and the Sandusky Community Hearts making contributions to the cause.
The program’s main event involves children from the program’s yearly list of families, as provided by the Department of Human Services, going on a shopping trip with the likes of firefighters, police, EMTs, veterans and other community heroes for gifts and other family needs.
To donate to the Shop With a Hero program, swing by the sheriff’s office with your donation, or mail it to Sanilac County Sheriff, ‘Shop with a Hero,’ 65 N. Elk St., Sandusky, MI 48471.
Meanwhile, the Sandusky City Police and several other businesses around town are taking part in the Sandusky Lions Club annual toy drive. The toy drive, which just last year helped 70 families and 125 children have a better Christmas, will finish up around Mid-December.
Those interested in helping are encouraged to donate a new toy at any one of the multiple locations around town, such as at Sandusky City Hall.
