After several hours of search by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, a 13-year-old boy was found about 6 miles away from his home on Sunday morning after running away the previous night.
Sheriff Kelly Hanson says in a press release that the boy had staged his runaway from his home on M-142 in Verona Township, between Ubly and Hellems Road around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, with family members searching for two hours before calling the Huron County Sheriff’s Office. This prompted a further search by friends and family, now assisted by the Bad Axe Police and Fire Departments, with a Sanilac County Sheriff K-9 also assisting in the search.
Though there were plans for a helicopter to join the search at sun-up, it is unclear if it was ultimately required, as the boy was found unharmed in Ubly before 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 4.
