A Cass City man attempting to drive himself to the hospital last Friday night instead found himself in a South Barrie Road ditch after swerving to avoid a deer.
Deputies with the Huron County Sheriff Office were dispatched to the scene at South Barrie Road, near Huron Line Road after 9:00 p.m. on December 9, after a passing driver reported a 1996 F-150 truck stuck in a ditch. Police found the Cass City man inside the vehicle with dried blood on his head.
Though it’s unclear if the man suffered any additional injuries from the accident, the driver told police, due to poor phone service, he decided to drive himself to the emergency room after injuring his head at home. As he was driving, he reportedly swerved to avoid hitting a deer, sending the truck into the ditch instead.
One theory by responders, based on the man’s confused mental state and how the truck was found positioned, that he had meant to turn but failed to do so.
The man was taken via Central Huron Ambulance to McLaren Thumb Region Hospital.
