Thumb law enforcement agencies give Christmas back to the community

During the holiday season, local law enforcement agencies are focusing more on the nice list, with thumb area counties all holding events to give local families the best Christmas possible.
Tuscola County kicked things off with their Shop with a Cop event, helping about 40 families get their Christmas wishes on Tuesday, December 6.
In Sanilac County, 26 kids participated in Shop with a Hero on Thursday, December 8, and were accompanied by volunteers from the county’s many police, fire and medical emergency services. Over the past 12 years of the program, almost 270 families have been helped.
Meanwhile, Huron County held their Shop with a Hero event this past Wednesday, December 15, with over $30,000 raised for this event. In addition, Sheriff Kelly Hanson reports that the 9th annual Secret Santa program, where county residents can anonymously donate cash or food gifts usually totaling $100, has dispersed almost $13,000 in funds so far.
While St. Clair County is currently unable to do the traditional Shop with a Hero event, due to prior COVID restrictions, they hope to transition back to in-store shopping next year. In the meantime, agencies in the county kept busy, with around 50 families having gift cards and food delivered to them by volunteers.
Lapeer County, who also faced some challenges due to the COVID restrictions, decided to still host the shopping event, but with smaller groups taking turns, rather than doing it all at once. Lapeer County agencies helped about 20 kids from 14 families with their shopping event on Friday, December 9.
