Leads sought after $80,000 in lights stolen from developing M-53 business

Sheriff Kelly Hanson and his Huron County deputies are seeking assistance following a theft committed at a developing business on M-53 within the past 48 hours.

Shortly after noon today (Wednesday, December 21), Huron Central Dispatch received a call around from the business owner redeveloping a former party store in Lincoln Township, south of Kinde.

The lights, valued at $800 each, were most likely transported from the site in multiple vehicles, though police also theorize that thieves could have made off with the $80,000 haul with a large trailer and vehicle.
The caller reported that some time between 3:00 p.m. yesterday, December 20, and noon today, someone had cut the locks on the outside storage containers and swiped 100 two-section light fixtures.
The sheriff’s office urges anyone with information to come forward, either by calling the office at 989-269-6500, the non-emergency line at 989-269-6421, or by submitting an anonymous tip at 989-269-2861.
