Following the December 15, 2022 resignation of member Nicholas DeGrazia from the St. Clair Community College Board of Trustees, three applicants have thrown their hat into the ring to join the board.
With the plan being to appoint the new trustee at Monday’s special meeting, the six other board members will be tasked with choosing between applicants Alphonso Amos, Gregory Smith and Mukund Wankhede. Amos had applied before for a spot on the board following the November 2020 resignation of former trustee Amy Holmes.
DeGrazia, who had been on the board since 2009 and was due to finish his current term in 2026, did mention he planned to travel after leaving the position, but did not cite a reason for the sudden resignation on December 15. His resignation came a week after the board voted 5-1 to buy a $1.2 million property for potential college housing in downtown Port Huron, with DeGrazia being absent from the meeting and subsequent vote.
His successor will serve out the term until the next election in 2026.
