A Friday night accident in Cottrellville Township has left one pedestrian dead and another seriously injured after being struck while walking on an unlit road with no sidewalks.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office reported that it was around 9:00 p.m. on January 13 as an elderly Armada couple were driving north on Starville Road in their 2010 Ford Fusion when they struck the two pedestrians walking in the dark road’s travel lane, south of Shea Road. The 70-year-old male driver called police, remaining on the scene and cooperative throughout the event.
Responding rescue crews declared a 30-year-old Clay Township woman dead at the scene, while her companion, a 27-year-old Bloomfield man, sustained serious life threatening injuries and was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital for treatment.
The county’s crash investigation team is looking further into the accident, with results of a chemical test pending at this time.
