Sandusky council discusses future city water sources, 2022 police stats

sandusky-2-2

With the city looking into possible future water sources, the Sandusky council approved moving forward with a feasibility test of Well #7 in the Clair-Wait subdivision.
City Manager Dave Faber presented the topic to council at Monday night’s meeting, having received a quote from Northern Pump & Well of $15,584 to conduct the five day project. The well, which had its top capped during the city’s 2006 water system rehab, would undergo a pump test as part of the project, as the city has transitioned to submersible pumps in the wells, rather than the turbine pump Well #7 had previously.
Regardless of pump specifics, Faber says that with the current weather conditions, the test could happen soon and the results will be used to determine if the well can be tied back into the system, or if the city will need to pursue drilling a new well elsewhere.
In addition to unanimously approving the well quote, the council also used the January 16 meeting to approve the splitting of one 15-acre parcel of land on West Sanilac Road in Sandusky into three 5-acre parcels by James Zyrowski and his company, Maple Valley Properties LLC. They also granted three Diamond Trail event permits for upcoming summer events.
Sandusky Police Chief Brett Lester also answered some questions regarding the 2022 crime statistics, noting that though 2021 had about 100 less incidents, 2022 was not a busy year by any means. The department handled 2,866 incidents, with almost 700 of those incidents being traffic stops.
Lester also noted that, while a majority of incidents occurred in city limits, Sandusky Police still responded to a fair number of incidents outside the city limits, crediting that, in part, to the department being open 24/7.
