Lapeer City Police and the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office are seeking help in solving an early morning armed robbery at the Demille Road Holiday Inn Express hotel.
Local dispatchers received calls shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, reporting how a white man, described as thin, 6 feet tall and between 20 and 30 years old, approached the front desk, brandished a silver handgun and demanded money. With the employee complying quickly, no one was injured as the suspect fled the building on foot towards the south, an unknown amount of cash in hand.
With the Michigan State Police also joining the investigation, Lapeer County and city law enforcement thoroughly searched the area upon arrival to the scene, dispatching a K-9 unit, but failed to find the suspect. Authorities are unsure if a vehicle was involved in the getaway. Surveillance video has revealed that the suspect approached the hotel on foot from the south, wearing a puffy black jacket, light colored athletic style pants that were tight at the ankle, and dark shoes with white designs.
Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact Lapeer city Detective Sergeant Craig Gormley at 810-664-0833.
