McKenzie Health System will be hosting a community-wide coloring contest this March in celebration of National Reading Month.
The contest is meant to inspire creativity among young readers and is currently open to children up to the age of ten. It can be completed at any time during the month of March. Coloring sheets are found on the McKenzie Health System’s website or may be picked up at any McKenzie healthcare office in Croswell, Peck, Port Sanilac, or Sandusky.
Each March is dedicated to motivating Americans of all ages to read every day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, which falls on the 2nd of the month. “Reading opens up new worlds and creates new possibilities, no matter what your age,” said Heather Chambers, Director of Healthcare Practices at McKenzie Health System. “We love celebrating National Reading Month each year and encouraging community members to open up a book or eBook, a newspaper or magazine to support everything from knowledge to vocabulary to human interest.”
All McKenzie family healthcare clinics will participate in the coloring contest. Submissions received at the end of March will be shared on the McKenzie Health System’s Facebook page and prizes given out based on random drawings.
McKenzie family healthcare providers also participate in “Reach Out and Read,” a national program that gives away books to hospital patients ages six months to five years and encourages families to read together.
In addition, the Sanilac County Community Foundation has recently partnered with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to provide free books to every child in Sanilac County from birth through the age of five.
