Despite all occupants escaping safely and without injury, an overnight fire in Caseville devastated a family home.
It was shortly before 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 19, when a young man heard whistling coming from the north side garage attached to his parents’ home, located in the 4400 block of Carolyn Drive. Going to investigate, he instead found the fire, prompting him to call 911 and escape the home with his girlfriend.
Caseville and Windsor Township Fire Departments battled the blaze, putting it out sometime after 5:00 a.m. The home was deemed a total loss, with it being insured. The Caseville Area Fire Department eventually returned to the scene a few hours later after reports of shifting wind stoked fears of the fire being reignited from a smoldering section of the home, removing part of the roof to lessen reignition chances.
Also assisting at the scene were  Consumers Energy, DTE, Elkton EMS, the Huron County Sheriff’s Department and Scheurer Ambulance. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
