Flynn out as Sandusky superintendent as logo group seeks petition signatures for board recall

Following a relatively short closed session during the February 21st  meeting, the Sandusky Board of Education decided in a 5-2 vote not to renew District Superintendent Paul Flynn’s contract.
Flynn, who had been a recent finalist for the superintendent position at Fowlerville Schools, will be finishing out a six-year tenure with Sandusky when his contract ends on June 30 of this year. He was hired in 2017 after serving as principal at Yale High School for several years.
The board’s decision comes amid recall efforts against three board members– board president Jason Trepkowski, board treasurer Daniel Gerstenberger, and board member Jane Jacobson– by local group Save the Redskin Logo, in relation to the board’s November vote and decision on the new Wolves mascot.
The group had their petition language approved on January 13 and upheld on January 30 of this year, giving them roughly six months to collect the more than 700 signatures needed to trigger the recall election.
They are collecting signatures at the Sandusky RC Park N’ Marketplace across from the elementary school on M-19. Signatures are valid for two months.
If held, the special election is expected to cost a little less than $30,000,  which the school district would be responsible for.
