The man who held up the owner and three employees at the Harbor Drug Store last May pleaded no contest to three felony charges earlier this week.
According to Huron County Prosecutor Tim Rutkowski, 40-year-old Christopher Demara of Kinde pleaded no contest on Monday, March 6, to armed robbery, felony firearm and felonious assault with a dangerous weapon.
The charges stem from his actions on May 4, 2022, when he pretended to be at the business near closing time to pick up a prescription, giving employees an alias for the prescription. However, when an employee could not find a prescription under that name, Demara brandished his weapon, and ordered them and the rest of the employees into the back, demanding their methadone and leaving when they complied.
With no one harmed, police were able to determine via surveillance video and witness statements that it was Demara, leading them to his home with a warrant about five and a half hours after he committed the robbery. A search of the home turned up the gun he had used, as well as the stolen medication.
Demara is due for sentencing on May 1, 2023, before Huron County Circuit Court Judge Gerald M. Prill, where he faces up to a maximum sentence of life in prison for the armed robbery conviction.
