Deputy Joey Holzberger with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office may only be approaching his second year with the department, but that year is coming to an impressive end, thanks to his investigation last Tuesday.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department via social media, Deputy Holzberger responded to a suspicious call on Tuesday, March 7, the department crediting his “proactivity [which] led to finding methamphetamine, distribution materials, a weapon, and ammunition.”
30-year-old Anthony Somma was arrested Tuesday and arraigned the next day on felony controlled substance and felony firearms charges, plus 2 additional weapon-related misdemeanors. Somma was also arraigned on misdemeanor charges of breaking and entering charges without permission and prowling. He was charged with these crimes back in August 2022 but had avoided arraignment by skipping his November court date, prompting a warrant for his arrest.
While Somma did stand mute on his March charges, he pleaded not guilty to the prowling and breaking and entering charges.
He remains at St. Clair County Jail on a $50,000 bond for the felony offenses, with an additional $1,000 bond for the previous misdemeanors.
