While other schools held their board meetings last night, Carsonville-Port Sanilac held theirs last Monday, discussing and approving staff appreciation bonuses ranging from $300 to $850 for all employees, as well as hearing an update from Powerlifting Coach Travis Miller as the team wrapped up their first year as a club.
The board met March 7 at 6:00 p.m. to also discuss joining the new Big Thumb Conference, ultimately agreeing, with Superintendent Doug Muxlow noting that a press release will be released once all pending schools have joined. The mega-conference is a merger of the NCTL (North Central Thumb League) and GTC (Greater Thumb) conferences, and will begin full scheduling in the fall semester of 2024.
Two faculty members from the elementary school were also recognized at the meeting. Third grade teacher Amy Foote was recognized for Excellence in Teaching by the Champagne Insurance Agency, while principal Jennifer Richmond was named the district’s Friend of the Youth by the board. Richmond is in her 10th year at CPS, and in addition to her elementary duties, she serves as title coordinator, superintendent designee and basketball coach in the district.
In other school board news, Marlette Community Schools announced Denny and Shauna Lester as their district’s friends of the youth this year, with the married couple being part of the district as teachers and coaches for more than 15 years.
