A 59-year-old man from Marlette required medical transport after a medical emergency caused him to drive erratically on M-46.
State troopers with the Caro post were patrolling M-46 west of M-24 just after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, when they noticed a westbound Ford Edge that was crossing the road’s centerline and into both lanes. With the vehicle almost striking a sign and driving in the ditch, troopers attempted to pull the driver over.
Despite their attempts, the driver continued west, traveling about 40 mph before the troopers caught up. Pulling alongside the car, the troopers motioned for the driver to pull over, becoming aware then that the driver was seemingly suffering from a medical emergency.
The driver was finally able to pull over near Wireline Road, but was unable to put the vehicle into park. Instead, the car slowed to a roll that was finally stopped when troopers pulled around and in front of the vehicle to stop its moving. Unable to communicate with the driver as he went in and out of consciousness, the troopers “busted” the passenger side window to get into the car and to the driver.
He was taken to a local hospital by Mobile Medical Response, with the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office assisting at the scene.
