The St. Clair Shores man who kidnapped his ex-wife last June was sentenced by St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Damman to a minimum of seven years, maximum of 15, in prison this past Friday, March 24.
53-year-old Gabriel Charles Wagner is also being ordered to pay almost $45,000 in restitution to the 47-year-old man he stabbed while kidnapping his ex-wife, and $4,300 in restitution to the ex-wife as well, plus court costs. He was also ordered to not have contact with either of his victims.
Wagner’s sentencing comes after his plea deal on February 6, when he pleaded no contest to unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do less than murder, third degree criminal sexual conduct and aggravated domestic violence. He was originally arraigned on seven charges, including two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct during a felony and two counts of felonious assault.
The case started June 1, 2022, when the 47-year-old man reported at 2:30 a.m. that Wagner had entered an East China Township property before severely hurting him and Wagner’s ex-wife. The man reported that Wagner forced his ex-wife into a black 2007 Honda Accord and fled the scene.
They were later found at an Ohio hotel, with police remaining outside the barricaded hotel room until Wagner released his ex-wife after a 12 hour stand off with police.
