No one injured following CO2 leak at Lapeer McDonald’s

No injuries were reported after a McDonald’s in Lapeer was evacuated yesterday afternoon following the activation of the restaurant’s CO2 (carbon dioxide) alarm.
Located at 486 South Main Street in Lapeer, the restaurant was closed shortly after 1:15 p.m. for investigation by the City of Lapeer’s Fire and Rescue Department. It was discovered that there was a slow leak from the CO2 storage and distribution system, with the building ventilated and the carbon dioxide levels brought below the danger threshold.
With restaurant management instructed to contact their repair technicians, the McDonald’s is scheduled to be re-opened upon approval from management.
Lapeer City Fire and Rescue noted in their press release that “businesses with CO2 storage and distribution [need] to have code approved CO2 detection systems within their building and to have the system tested at least annually.”
