Port Sanilac Fire Department received a report on Tuesday morning of a burning cottage on Cooney Drive in Sanilac Township.
When Deputy Chief Brian Moran Sr and Captain Brian Moran Jr arrived at the scene yesterday, April 11, they found a still active fire,with a nearby non-attached building catching fire. The department contacted dispatch, with more firefighters arriving on scene to help extinguish the fire. Crews remained on scene until the gas and electricity were shut off.
The department noted via Facebook that the fire possibly started in the night, though the cause is still unknown. Fire investigators and the Sanilac County Sheriff’s office will be investigating the fire as it’s thought to be suspicious.
